Main Feature
I have dedicated much of my time to tracing the genealogy of the pioneers of New France. What started with my direct ancestors slowly evolved into a much larger beast then I anticipated. As I have received requests for assistance, I simply added the new information into my tree and watched it grow, and grow, and grow. We are bordering on nearly 9,000 records.
This started as a typical 'who were my great grandparents?' inquiry as a child and with the assistance of some family members I started putting together a very simple tree. The tree was set aside and forgotten about, for many years, until one day a family member asked about it. We added a few more details, and set it aside again. Years later I find out an aunt paid for a name search with family crest for the Sauve line. The material was a very generic and non-accurate, but it inspired me to look deeper. By this time the Internet had become common place and I was able to start searching for my ancestors without taking time off of work. That was 1996. Since then I went from paper copies of records, to computerized applications, to publishing the results online from my own web server. The collected data has changed from oral records, to well documented material, to Wikipedia articles, and continues to evolve.
As the work continues to take on a life of its own, I am drawn deeper and deeper into the history of New France as well as Europe leading up to the early 1600's when most of us arrived on the shores of Lower Canada. This has become a bit of an obsession for me, to the point that I may return to school to get a degree in Genealogical research. My love of history, combined with my obsessive-compulsiveness makes this a great carrier option for me. Anyone willing to pay for a researcher?
I have brought together information from multiple sources (web, publications, census, etc) to create a good starting point for most anyone interested in tracing their families with connections to New France. While I do refer to Ancestory.com for direction from time to time, I try not to use material found there as a sole source. Much of the material on the large LDS sites is not sourced well, if at all, and accuracy is spotty. This is still a hobbyist work in progress; I hope others will be interested in contributing, correcting, and using this data.
I am looking for:
